Comparing the Reigns of Julian and Constantius Essay

For a ruler to be successful, certain characteristics must be present in that specific person. There are many variances to the cookie-cut emperor, though they all share similar passions. For instance, while one ruler emphasizes trade routes and commercial power for expansion of their legion, another may emphasize war and destruction only to rebuild their own version of their legion in the place that had been won. Although both rulers have very different manners and ideas about how to expand their empire, both have the same wish to be fulfilled. This kind of contradiction of power and reason is very implemented into the storyline of Julian. Between Julian and Constantius, they both attempt to reform the state religion, but are at†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, Julian was Constantius kryptonite. Julian who, at a young age is very submissive and obedient follows the reign of Constantius for his own safety. Struck with fear from the death of his father, Julian ne ver reveals his true beliefs until the proper moment. Sly and witty with his life, Julian makes alliances with other paganistic believers as he ventures into philosophy and sciences, only to suppress his wishes on being any sort of leader. With mentors and friends like that of Oribasius, Libanius, and Priscus, Julian is molded into a very intelligent person; His intelligence with the sciences assist him greatly later on in his persecutions of the Christian faith. Julian is successful at keeping his secrets regarding his true beliefs, which keep him in the good graces of Constantius, ensuring his protection into adulthood. After the death of his brother, Julian was promoted to Caesar due to the necessity of command for the armed forces [pp 184-185]. Being a natural at military command, Julian was able to experience what power can do to a person. With his successes against the Germans, the people who fought under his Caesar-ship revolted at the order of Constantius and forced Ju lian to the seat of Augustus [pp 257-262]. Julian still remained careful in his choices, nearly refusing his newly appointed position at first and still claiming Christian faith, at least until

Perhaps what he as most well known for is the fact that he performed many late-term abortions on these women. Late term abortions are heavily criticized and debated throughout the world today and thus, he received much scrutiny, eventually paving the road for his future (Masters, 2013). Late term abortions are those that take place late into the term of the woman’s pregnancy and can be done as late as 35 weeks into a pregnancy. We will write a custom essay sample on MCHC Paper or any similar topic only for you Order Now The process for these types of abortions is very graphic: a lethal dose of Dioxin, a heart medicine, is injected into the heart of the baby in the amniotic fluid through the woman’s abdomen. This causes the baby to have a earth attack and die. Labor is then induced and the woman gives birth too non-living child (Operation Rescue, 2013). Connell was performing what many people refer to as partial birth abortions. This is when the baby is born and then essentially killed. This raised a lot of issues, most notably whether he was performing abortions of committing murder. Most people believed that this type of abortion was occurring well past the, â€Å"gray area,† of whether the fetus is a living being or not. There were also some issues on whether the clinic that he was running was legitimate. These started to take shape when an untrained and unlicensed clinic worker gave Ackermann Monger, a woman who came into Counsel’s clinic in 2009, an overdose of painkillers, which caused Monger to die (Who is Connell? , 2014). Abortion and the notions of Pro-Choice and Pro-Life are very’ important topics in the world today, both politically and religiously, thus Connell and his actions were highly criticized which in turn led to his rise in fame. Connell has had many prior complaints starting in 1 989 and the FBI eventually brought his actions to light after a raid of his clinic in 2010. The raid was performed to investigate suspected illegal drug use at Counsel’s Lenin, which was called Women’s Medical Society. When the clinic was raided, they also discovered unsanitary conditions throughout the facility, use of untrained staff, and use of powerful drugs without proper medical supervision and control (Williams, 2013). Connell was arrested in January Of 2011 and he was charged seven counts Of first degree murder, which was reduced to four at trial, one count of third degree murder, for the death of Monger, infanticide, which was dismissed at trial, five counts of abusing a corpse, also dismissed at trial, multiple counts of conspiracy, criminal solicitation and violation of state law that forbids abortions after the 24th week of a pregnancy (Sullivan, 2013). Connell also received some non-murder charges ranging from 24 counts of violating Pennsylvania Abortion Act by performing illegal third-trimester abortions, 227 counts of violating a twenty-four hour waiting period requirement and failing to counsel patients (Sullivan, 2013). Connell violated many moral and ethical principles during his time as a doctor. First and foremost is personality. Connell had no remorse for human life and did not treat it as sacred or special when he murdered children post birth. Next is demonology and beneficence. Connell failed to do what was best for his patients because if he would have done so he would have not only counseled the mothers, but would have never hurt those babies. Connell was also in violation of non-malfeasance because failed in his mission to do no harm to his patients. While he may not have harmed most of the mothers, the babies that these women were having were certainly harmed. He failed to realize the teleology Of the acts that he Was performing and did not realize the ultimate consequences of his actions. Perhaps his biggest ethical violation was the lack of respect that he showed towards all of is patients. Connell performed these medical acts in unsanitary conditions and enlisted the help of unqualified people. His biggest lack of respect was that of human life. He allowed those mothers to give birth to their babies and then he proceeded to kill them by snipping their spinal cord through the neck. My opinion on abortion is simple. I do not support it and I am one hundred percent pro life. This may be because both of my parents share the same views as I do and I come from a traditionally republican family, but it is my belief that human life is sacred and is a special gift from God. Thus, it is to be treated as such and an abortion is a violation of that belief. In my opinion, human life begins at the moment of conception so an abortion is a clear ending of that life. Another factor in my opinion of abortion could also branch from my Catholic background, I have gone to catholic schools since preschool and continue my catholic enrichment here at Gowned Mercy and it is also the catholic position on abortion to be pro life. In my opinion, what Connell did was horrible and a clear violation of human rights. He is right where he belongs, which is in prison serving a life sentence. Not even begin to think of a reason that he may have for doing what he did. His actions were morally and ethically wrong and luckily he is now paying the price for them. Connell is essentially a murderer and violated state abortion laws countless times in his medical career. In no way, shape, or form is what he did correct, he lost sight Of the importance of life a performed unforgivable ac tions. Whether it was out of greed, or whether he thought what he was doing was right, Connell deserves the punishment that has been given to him. Works Cited Masters, Teresa (March 19, 2013). External consultancy Merits In this process, competition between three applicants is much higher. Consultancies find innovative ideas to test applicants as they invest more time. Demerits The process of recruiting through external consultancy is often time consuming, as initially a company upload an advertisement for vacancy and hen the consultancy firms gather the required information and publish another advertisement for applicants. Social media Merits Social media and other websites provide a bigger space for people to post about their achievements and important assignments they completed, to attract attention of the recruiters (Kluemper 2013). HR Managers can look into the profiles of the people and see their backgrounds and their mindsets viewing their posts because the Curriculum Vitae provide a small window for the recruiters to judge a person. Demerits Nowadays social media sites often get hacked for several reasons, so the posts on which recruiters depend; there is a chance that they might go through a fake post. If a manager only depends on the social media to recruit worker, people who do not have accounts in social media, they lag behind. 2.Recruitment via social media sites bring in problems like privacy issues, where the details of a person can be revealed and this can potentially harm a person (Mello 2012). The recruiters and the governing bodies of these sites should stress upon the privacy policies to ensure the security of the people. On the other hand, recruitment through External consultancy firms does not cause such issues. References Kluemper, D.H., 2013. ( Lu, 1986 ) THE BALANCE SCORECARD AS A STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The end of the balance scorecard are beyond than doing a temporarily set of non-financial and fiscal statistics of public presentation. They are ensuing from the top to bottom process provided by the concern unit as per their schemes and missions. As per Norton and Kaplan How otherwise the organisation utilizing these scorecards to accomplish the procedure of critical direction is listed below: From the translating and illustrating purposes and schemes, it focuses on the strategic ends to analyse the criticalnesss. Each employee of the organisation should be communicated the strategic steps and programs, One the employee of the organisation able to understand, they need to work on those schemes and ends to run into their concern unit s overall scheme. Once the above two procedures are being accomplished there must be puting of marks, and be aftering to originate the particular ends which means gives them way for that specific end to be accomplished. These marks must non be exceeded than 1 twelvemonth so that the public presentation can be entree easy which is been made for accomplishing the long term marks. Enhancing the scheme for feedback and acquisition is the last procedure, so that things can be evaluate and proctor or may adjusted or changed if necessary. The attack of the scheme is for both, the clients and the internal procedures. ( Drury, 2009 ) ESTABILISHING GOALS AND PERFORMANCE STATISTICS As explained briefly above about the procedures of balanced scorecard, we can now believe about the procedures of set uping ends and public presentation stats in all the procedures of balanced scorecard. Capabilities of the employers Capabilities of the IS ( information system ) Authorization, alliance A ; motive CUSTOMER ACCOUNT PROFITIBILITY It is based on the life clip value of the client by the organisation which can be determined by the life-time possible gross of the client subtracting the life-time cost. It helps to make up ones mind the client life-time profitableness over the organization/customer relationship. ( Drucker, 1999 ) Decision Management comptroller plays critical function in any organisation so there is a great demand to hold got top direction comptroller in most of the organisation is consider being the accountant of the organisation. Goals of direction comptroller are to preparation of schemes, concern activities, programs, and studies including finance, revenue enhancement, audit and system support for effectual determinations which helps the organisations to accomplish its hereafter ends. Question 2: What is meant by the footings relevant and irrelevant costs and grosss in Strategic Management Accounting determination doing? Include several little numerical illustrations in your reply. In the procedure of determination devising, all the costs may non be relevant some may see as irrelevant. Relevant cost is really considered as future cost ; where from the experiences of past direction makes determination for the hereafter. RELEVANT COST AND REVENUES The entire difference between the cost of two options is known as a relevant cost, it is non necessary that a cost which is relevant for one undertaking is besides relevant for the other, relevant cost varies from instance to instance, in the accounting defined term, it is known as a cost which direction thinks most of import for their determination devising, its eliminates all other unneeded cost. The of import thing that has to be considered is that it needs to see qualitative factors as good and non merely quantitative factors. ( Drury, 2009 ) IRRELEVANT Cost As mentioned above, costs that are irrelevant in a peculiar state of affairs may be relevant for other, Sunk costs ; operating expenses are the best illustrations of this. ( Drury, 2009 ) In a procedure of determination devising, the cost and benefits of one option must be compared with the other options, so the relevant and irrelevant cost can be analyzed, analyzation is critical because of two ground. First, ignorance of irrelevant informations which saves the clip and attempt of the determination shaper and the 2nd is that bad determination can easy be identified Examples: If toilet is seeking to make up ones mind whether to travel to watch a film or lease a videotape, is this determination the rent of the flat where toilet lives is irrelevant because whether he travel to watch the film or rent it the rent of the flat has to be paid in both instances. However, to cost of the ticket of the film or the cost for leasing the film is relevant in this determination because it is evitable cost. An evitable cost can be clearly defined through this illustration as, it is a cost that can be eliminated in a whole or in portion, If John choose to watch the film so leasing the film is considered as evitable cost same as if John choose the rent the film so purchasing the ticket will be considered as evitable cost. Whereas the rent of the house is ineluctable cost in this determination because, in taking any of the options it has to be paid by John. Evitable costs are relevant and ineluctable costs are irrelevant costs. There are two broader classs of costs that neer considered as relevant cost. Sunk cost Future cost that do non differ among the options SUNK Cost Sunk cost are the cost that has been incurred in past and can non be changed for future determinations, it is ever the same no affair what type of determination has to be taken. Therefore, it is considered as irrelevant cost and needs to be ignored. ( Garrison A ; Noreen, 2002 ) Examples: Suppose a machine has been purchased in the yesteryear, the cost that has been incurred for the machine is a sunk cost because it has already been incurred and can non be changed that is the ground why it do nt necessitate to be considered in the devising of determination. Future Cost Future cost that do non differ among the options should besides be ignored during the determination devising procedure. It can be more clearly defined by the aid of the mentioned below illustration. Examples: Let s go on the illustration that has been mentioned above where John has to take between the options whether he travel to watch the film or rent it, Suppose John intend to order a Burger of his pick during the film no affair he is watching the film in theater or he rent it, the cost of that Burger will stay the same in both the options. For the determination of telling a Burger, the cost is irrelevant because it is a future cost that does non differ among the two options. OPPORTUNITY COST It is the cost of the trade good that one leaves for acquiring the 2nd 1 among the two different options. ( Garrison A ; Noreen, 2002 ) For Example: Item Quantity Amount Benefits Wheat 10,000 dozenss 20,000 100,000 people fulfil the day-to-day necessity Industries 1 unit 20,000 100 get employment Here we can see two different options available, we assume that a peculiar state holding two different options available, whatever the option the determination shaper will choose the other would be consider as the chance cost. INCREMENTAL AND MARGINAL COST Incremental cost and Marginal cost are the cost of difference between cost of the merchandise and the gross acquiring by the sale of merchandise for the corresponding points under each option being considered. ( Garrison A ; Noreen, 2002 ) Examples: The incremental cost of bring forthing or bring forthing an increasing end product of merchandise Angstrom from 2000 to 2200 units per month are the extra cost of bring forthing an extra units of 200 per month. Incremental cost may be or may non be included in fixed cost. If as a consequence of a alteration in the determination of an organisation fixed cost fluctuate so the addition in cost is represents an incremental cost. If there is no alteration in fixed cost so the incremental cost will be zero. Relevant cost and grosss are required or utile in some particular instances which are mentioned below: Decision for particular merchandising monetary value: These are one clip orders merely and they are below the current monetary value of the market. It exists both in short term and long term footing. It is non the portion of the on-going concern of the organisation. Product mix determinations when capacity restraints exist: It occurs in the confining factor and its purpose is to concentrate on those merchandise or services which give the highest return of net income within the confining factor. Decisions on replacing of equipment: It is based on the determination where the original value of the old machine, depreciation and it s written off value is considered as irrelevant. Outsourcing ( Make or purchase ) determinations: it is based on the analyzation to transport out on the activities from the value concatenation within the organisation instead than purchase it from the provider. Discontinuance determinations: It is based on the analyzation of those merchandises or services where the cost is higher than the gross ( which merchandise or serve the organisation demand to stop ) . Note: The illustrations of these particular surveies are available in appendices. Decision To place the evitable cost for a peculiar undertaking or determination which is therefore the relevant cost, a determination shaper should follow the mentioned below measure: Extinguish the benefits and the costs that differ between the two options, the irrelevant cost will be dwelling of a ) sunk cost and B ) hereafter cost that does non differ from the options. After placing and analysing these cost, the determination shaper will so necessitate to analyse the hereafter cost that differ between the two options in a determination, the cost that remain are differential and evitable costs. In the procedure of determination doing the qualitative factors needs to be consider instead than quantitative factors. Question 3: What are the benefits and jobs of presenting activity based bing into an administration such as Jessup? ACTIVITY BASE Costing ABC method has been in usage since the start of twentieth century. Activity Based Costing is the bing harmonizing to the activity. Equally far as Jessup Ltd is concern the board of manager should hold to see the execution of the activity base bing to accomplish organisation end. The stairss of implementing Activity Base Costing are as follows. 1st Measure: First measure is to place the activities which are the analysis of runing procedure of each section and each section consist of one or more activities required for the production of an end product. second Measure: Second measure is to delegating resource costs to activities and there are two costs which are assign to activities known as direct cost which straight concern with the current production for illustration the stuff cost ( nail, pigment, wood ) to built tabular array, indirect cost which are the cost who straight which can non allocated to a individual end product and benefit to one or more end products, and the last assignment cost is general and administrative costs which is non associated with any merchandise or service to offer, such cost remain the same no affair what end product the activity produced for illustration wages of disposal, depreciation on works and equipments. 3rd Measure: Third measure is the designation of the end product of the consequence of the production for which activity is performed and consumer resources. Output can be merchandise services or clients. fourth Measure: Fourth and the last measure is to delegate activity costs to end product by utilizing activities drivers which assign activity costs to outputs which are based on single end products ingestion or demand of activities which is being performed. ( Geoktuerk, 2005 ) COMPARING TRADITIONAL AND ABC SYSTEM TRADITIONAL System The traditional base system which is besides known as standard system is been in working from 75 old ages and a batch of companies still utilizing this for the intent of fiscal direction statements and many other direction intents. It has some advantages for the companies like it is simple to utilize, the employees are more familiar with this system and the consistence of this system. But in today s concern it is misdirecting the determination shapers for the fiscal intents. The ground for that is that it is non been made for the instance of concern in which it is being utilizing presents, It has been designed for the companies that has 1 ) homogenous merchandises, 2 ) Large direct cost comparing with the indirect cost, 3 ) limited informations to roll up. Whereas in today s concern 1 ) A big assortment of complex merchandise and services are required, 2 ) Increased operating expenses compared to direct labor, 3 ) overload of informations and 4 ) Well non merchandise cost that can im pact the true merchandise. ( Drury, 2008 ) ABC SYSTEM The ABC costing system has been introduced because of the inaccuracy and misleading of the traditional system, these mistakes are the most unwanted things for the companies because of the environment set by the rivals in the market. The ABC system provides the accurate information and now most preferred over the traditional system, it is adopted when the operating expenses are increasing as compared with the direct labor costs. The smaller mark cost that are built upon activities are steps through the ABC system, it gives more advantageous because it helps in simplifying the procedure of determination devising and it makes the construct of the determination shaper more clear and mark oriented. It besides helps the direction to mensurate the public presentation and scene of criterions which may assist the director to utilize the given information for the intent of comparing. ( Drury, 2008 ) The traditional system normally depends on the random division among the section whereas the ABC system merely looks at the peculiar cause and how it might impact the cost. The cost for the production and support Centre is being merged in traditional whereas it s been see separately in ABC system. Both systems are utilizing a two phase allotment procedure, in the first phase, the traditional system are more looking at the cost for sections whereas the ABC system considers the activities. In the 2nd phase, the traditional system considers merely few cost drivers like labor, stuff etc whereas the ABC system considers a big Numberss of cost drivers. ( Drury, 2009 ) Traditional BASE COSTING TWO STAGE ALLOCATION ABC COSTING TWO STAGE ALLOCATION FEATURES/ BENEFITS OF ABC SYSTEM There will be figure of cost Centres and drivers available as per the demand of the company or which company could pull off. Establish truth in the procedure of different bing with respects to the merchandise, production, end user of the merchandise. Better aid in the production to understand the operating expense cost which is assign to the production of the merchandise of service. Easy to grok. Easy to construe harmonizing to the activity. Supply the better allotment of different resources as they are used in different merchandise line. Play critical function to place the activities and through such system determination shapers can extinguish such activities which are a load or emphasis for the production of the organisation or for the concern. Plants efficaciously with the public presentation direction systems which are employed by the human resource section of the company. Allow organisation to implement bing schemes across another diagonal of the concern procedure. Aid in the procedure of benchmarking which is an of import portion of the quality control system. ( Geoktuerk,2005 ) , ( Drury, 2009 ) Problem Necessitate a great no of informations and the informations aggregation procedure for this system. Time consuming. Generate capital outgo. This system is supposed to be crystalline system which some director would non better. Requires a immense wealth to prolong this system. Traditional system is more familiar than this system and most of the directors prefer traditional system because of the same ground. The companies who already holding the traditional system may hold jobs to setup this system. It is like land of information where the image of the company can non be clearly seen. ( Geoktuerk,2005 ) , ( Drury, 2009 ) Decision The ABC system is less emphasize on direct cost and more on indirect cost, Company like Jessup which is a service oriented company does nt hold labour and material cost so more demand for ABC costing is required, where the company need be aftering to place and analyse the meaningful pricing because tendering a contract is holding a proper apprehension of cost so that the best competitory monetary value can be set, ABC costing is necessary in a competitory environment like Jessup have. Note: See appendices for the illustration of ABC costing.

Is war ever Justified essays

Is war ever Justified essays Life has many amazing things to offer. Life presents us to things such as feelings, people, events, and at last death. Being alive means having the opportunity to learn, to love, to hurt, to feel unhappiness and joy. Life teaches us many good things throughout the years, however as great as life can be, it can also be very painful, destroying and even unfair. Just as we have love, we also have hatred. We have people in the world who are jealous for one reason or another. People who are jealous of other people or/and their countries. In this case Im talking about the United States. Because the United States has a good army, good governments and economy, other countries envy it. They start hating for not much reason and sooner or later they try starting a war. War is a horrible fight that is fought among countries; it kills thousands, and thousands, even millions of people. War is a frightening event that occurs through out life. People go into war for countless reasons; however power is a main factor of war. Wanting to have more power and not wanting to share it becomes a terrible problem. Some people are greedy and selfish and just simply want more and more of it. Whatever the reason might be, I think war is something we should try to avoid if possible. If its not necessary to kill millions of innocent people, then why do it? There can always be a way of compromising. Personally, I think that war is not justified. I agree, that sometimes you are forced to do things you might not want to do, however, I dont think that it makes war acceptable. I dont think that killing millions of innocent children, and people is necessary. Some people think war is justified because, they think that that is the only solution , I think theyre wrong because rather than war being the only solution my opinion is that war is the easy way out. Compromising and discussing their different points of views. Can always be a ...

Types of SLDs Specific Learning Disabilities can include perceptual disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities my significantly impair a childs ability to succeed in school, but not limit a child so much that he or she cant successfully participate in the general education curriculum with support. Inclusion and SLDs The practice of placing children with learning disabilities in classrooms with normal or, as special educators prefer it, typically developing children is called inclusion. The best place for a child with Specific Learning Disabilities is an inclusive classroom. This way he or she will get the special support they need without leaving the classroom. According to IDEA, the general education classroom is the default position. Before the re-authorization of IDEA of 2004, there was a discrepancy rule, which required a significant discrepancy between a childs intellectual ability (measured by IQ) and their academic functioning (measured by standardized Achievement Tests). A child reading below grade level who did not score well on an IQ test might have been denied special education services. That is no longer true. Challenges That Children With SLDs Present Understanding the nature of specific deficits can help a special educator design instructional strategies to help the disabled learner overcome difficulties. Xerox Corporation Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Xerox Corporation - Assignment Example   Local Area Network (LAN) is a computer network typically for an office or building. It is important in sharing information and data storage. This network can be built with low-priced hardware such as hubs, network adapters and Ethernet cables. It can depend on the wired connection for security, speed and for wireless connections. Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) entails network of an entire city. It is larger than a LAN. It is used to connect several LANs to create a bigger network. Since it is mainly used on the campus, it is also referred to as a Campus Area Network. Wide Area Network (WAN) is a geographically dispersed telecommunications network over long distances. It entails several LANs and WANs. They are built using leased lines despite them being expensive. But for a lesser cost, one can use packet and circuit switching methods. The network may enable individuals to chat via email and transfer data over the network. It is different from other systems because it can be contr olled by an individual. Moreover, LAN has limited distance to move, few transmissions errors, a high-speed interface, high reliability and ability to handle data traffic. Additionally, the maintenance cost is reasonable and it uses technologies such as Ethernet and token ring. A good example is a network in an office building can be a LAN. The network can be used to share information and communication purposes. The network is significant in that it covers a larger geographical area and transfers data at a medium speed depending on the cables.

Studying the Bible in context Essay Example for Free

Studying the Bible in context Essay 1, a. In helping readers to understand the various meanings of passages in the scripture, and for purposes of categorizing the bible literature in various narratives, the bible authors have develop various techniques which include the use of exegesis, which is essentially a systematic process that is used by an author in order to arrive at a coherent and reasonable meaning of a certain passage in the bible. This technique helps a reader to know the historic setting and the original meaning that the passage gave to the original recipients of the message. The rhetorical and progression devices have also been applied. In a rhetoric device, the author puts a lot of emphasis on a point that a leader is intended to grasp, while the progression device creates a story by developing events from the background to the climax of the story. All these are meant to helps readers to understand the context clearly. The paradox technique has been applied where two contradictory statements are used for instance, when Jesus stated that whoever wants to save their life must lose it. These and many other techniques have been applied to help understand and categorize bible literature as well as making the bile interesting to read. In the interpretation of bible narratives, it is important to be cautious by ensuring that an alert and careful reading of the text is done to avoid misinterpretation. A reader is supposed to visualize the whole story, and look for the literal meaning of words in order to attain the correct meaning. 1, b. Genesis chapter 17 talks about the appearance of God to Abraham when he was 99 years old. It was at this time when God renewed his covenant with Abraham and made renewed his promises to him including the promise of a son and that Abraham would become a father of a great nation. God also that, Abraham and all his descendants must be circumcised. From a theological perspective, (2006) stated that, the appearance of God this time was in the person of Christ Jesus. Where God told Abraham that he was â€Å"the Almighty,† this was meant to portray the real character and nature of God, by the use of the name Elshadai. Various scholars have however given different meanings to the name Shadily including an all-sufficient God, abundantly, one who pours out blessings, one who is rich among other meanings. By God asking that Abraham appear before him blameless, it shows how God would want the people to appear before him wholly and with total commitment. God appeared to reaffirm the covenant he had made with Abraham close to 25 years ago, and proved that he was faithful to whatever promises he makes to the human nature. God made a change of names for both Abraham and Sara as a way of encouraging their faith and to show that he would indeed make a father and a mother of a great nation. Abraham was in turn supposed to get circumcised and to circumcise all his descendants, this portrays the need for Christians to make sacrifices and to keep holy if they are to realize the promises of God. 1, c. Theologians have argued that, just like other historical books, the book of Acts is predominantly descriptive other than normative. The argument is that most of the events that have been explained in the book of Acts may not necessarily take place today and that some of the things which happened to people during the time of writing the book of Act, may not happen today. Acts 5 explains the story of Sapphira and Ananias and how they were struck down to death because of lying to God, this however does not mean that if Christian lie to God today the same punishment will be applicable to them. If Acts would be viewed as normative, does it mean that Christians should take the example of Acts 8: 16? which stated that leaders were then elected by way of ballots, the statement is therefore better viewed in the descriptive manner other than in the normative form. Acts 28: 36 talks about the early Pentecostals who were snake handlers, if Christians were to view this statement as normative, it would therefore mean that such snake handling actions are justified. Theologians have approached the book of Acts from the literal meaning, they have interpreted word to word, and passage to passage, and have then applied the teachings to the modern time in order to determine whether the book should be viewed as normative or descriptive. The literal approach is good as it helps leaders to first understand the meaning of a passage in the scripture and then look at the applicability of the context in the present time. 2, a. Theologians have stated that, the gospels are to be accepted as the reliable historical source that explains about the birth and life of Jesus Christ. The gospels consist of four books in the new testament which are Luke, Matthew, John and Mark. The gospels are also referred to as the good news books, they talk about the birth and life of Jesus. The scholars of the new testament have agreed that, the gospels cannot be said to be biographies, because they are not presented in a way that a biography is set in the modern time, theologians have also stated that, the gospels only focus a little on any issues that are of significance to the theological studies. It is therefore proper to take the gospels as history. 2, b. Parables are interpreted as the allegories. Theologians have stated that, there is need to search into the hidden meaning that is to be found behind the words in a certain parable, so that a person may be able to get the right meaning of the passage and the intended teaching of the parable. This technique of interpretation has been referred to as the hardening theory. The first principle in the interpretation of parables states that, the parables should be looked at by the setting of the good example shown from Jesus life. This sets the point of view from which parables should be approached. Another principle states that, parables should be approached from the scenery point of view, where the interpretation should not be done on word to word or from line to line, but rather by looking at the whole story after which a reader can then be in a position to derive the hidden meaning. 2, c. Luke 16: 19-31 is a bible parable which tells the story of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man lived in luxury while on earth while at the same time Lazarus lived in poverty and much suffering. When the two died Lazarus went to heaven where he rested in the chest of Abraham, while the rich man was tormented in hell. The rich man cried for help but could not be assisted because his time of repentance had gone. This parable explains what happened during that time, and closely relates the story to the events in the present day. In the interpretation of the parable, the rich Christians are supposed to take care of their poor brothers. When the rich man requested that Lazarus be sent on earth to warn his brothers, Abraham stated that, those who could not listen to Moses and Isaac would never listen to Lazarus if he was to come today to give a warning. This relates to the Christians who hear the word of God but do not pay any keen attention to it. The parable has therefore set the biblical teaching on the way of life which should be adopted by Christians. 3, a. The bible scholars have argued that, the moral standards of God did not change even after he gave the law to Moses. The Mosaic law is clearly studied as it states the laws that were given to the Israelites and the standards which God set for the Israelites to observe. The Mosaic law was delivered to the Israelites through Moses. The new covenant that was given to Abraham did not negate the moral standards that had been set earlier in the Mosaic law (Galatians 3:18-21). The only difference is that, in the mosaic covenant, the faithfulness of both parties was required where man was to be faithful to God and would in turn receive receive the promises of God, this is called a bilateral covenant, the Abraham covenant has only God who has promised to be faithful in fulfilling his promises, and is therefore called a unilateral covenant. The new covenant had Paul, James and Jesus emphasizing that Christians should keep and observe the whole law. Christians have therefore been urged to observe the Abraham law that has similar moral standards set by God in the Mosaic law. 3, b. Exodus 22:18, expresses how a witch and a sorcerer is viewed in the kingdom of God. The witch and the sorcerers may be representing all the evil people in the community who are not valued in the eye of God and in the Christian community, as their ambition is to confuse the faithful and to cause problems in the society. The meaning of exodus is not that the faithful should kill the witch and the sorcerer, but rather, they should pray for them and help them to repent and change their ways. 4, a. The epistles are the letters that were written to various individuals in the early church and their authorship is acknowledged to Paul. The epistles begin by mentioning the name Paul in their first wording. The epistles are to be read historically in that, they give a lot of descriptive details about the way the early church lived and how the church was conducted. On the bigger part, the epistles mostly have the theological studies, where the letters that were written to the various churches and to the various individuals addressed specific situations such as, a social wrong that needed people to correct or a poor interpretation of the scripture that needed to be corrected. The letters would also be written where there was a misunderstanding in the early church that needed to be resolved. The epistles contain a lot of theology that require proper interpretation, but at the same time of of the interpretations goes back to the historical settings in the church. 4,b. Collosians 1:13 can be interpretation from the historical sense in that, it takes about it talks a bout a historical past where human beings were living in the darkness, this period can be explained by looking at how it looked like, before human beings got to the grace period when Jesus Christ brought salvation. From the theological point, the verse calls for a lot of theological interpretation where the statement addresses the way in which Christians should live in the life of Christ Jesus. 4, c. Romans 14 together with 1 Corinthians 8, talks about the issue of Christian faith. Paul expressed to the Christians that, they had the liberty to eat anything including the food that was offered to the idols. In stating this, Paul explained that there was only one God and therefore, a Christian who examines their heart and felt it right to eat such food did not commit any sins. Drinking of wine is also not prohibited in the teaching of Paul and he even stated that a little wine for the stomach was good. Christians should always inquire into their conscience and mind to determine whether their faith allows them to do certain action. However, where an act done by a strong believer may ,mislead a weaker believer, it is good for the strong believer to avoid the action.

Negative Aspects of Cosmetic Surgery Essay -- essays research papers

Cosmetic Surgery - Worth the Risk? In today's society the picture of beauty is a thin super model with the body of a goddess posted on billboards all around the world. Children grow up playing with Barbie dolls with the body measurements of would be 90,60,90. Because of these pictures and other figures of beauties projected all over, a person is convinced to believe that to be beautiful and happy, one must look like these images. To most, the easiest way to achieve this is my having cosmetic surgery performed. With the change of times, has also come the advancement of medical procedures, yet how safe can a person be who is having cosmetic surgery performed on their body. No matter how good the technological advancements, there is always the risk of not only the surgery resulting being unwanted but in some cases even death. Society today has brain washed not only today's women, but also the men to believe that in order for a person to look beautiful they must look like the images seen on television, in movies and on the cover of magazines. These images portray grotesquely thin women and muscular men with the famous six-pack abs. The Hollywood figures that are so famous for their looks and bodies also encourage the belief that thin is beautiful. These images are plastered all over billboards, television shows and commercials and magazine advertisements. With all these visions of beauty seen everywhere in a person's every day life, a person feels compelled to look just like those images. Importance of Article 92 Essay

The military’s form of law is known as the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The UCMJ officially began May 31, 1951. It was signed into existence by President Truman. Congress deemed it necessary to create the UCMJ due to the lack of transparency and fairness previously provides to the military populous during WWII. The UCMJ allows for personal jurisdiction over all members of the uniformed services of the United States: the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps, and Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Members of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps and PHS are only subject to the UCMJ when attached to a military unit or when they are militarized by the president. Article 92, a sub section of the UCMJ, is intended to establish set precedents of punishment and examples of the crime of failing to obey an order or regulation. This Article is very important and is the fundamental backbone of all the military stands for. Being a member of the military is a very important job. Each and every man and woman has an important job to do which assist the forward progress of our country. As great as we would like to every person is not every service member does the correct thing. Due to the fact that we have an all volunteer army it goes without saying that the military is a realistic sample of all American has to offer, good and bad. And there are soldiers and service members who if not given a clear set of rules and punishment s would not be productive members of the military. Article 92 is part of the very important checks and balances implemented by the government to help keep the military efficient in spite of this. If you read into what Article 92 covers you’ll see that it provides multiple negative stimuli to the act of disobeying an order. This negative reinforcement is used to cultivate a more efficient military. This is done all the way through the rank structure regardless of service or grade. Civilians may think this is excessive but I believe that view is incorrect. Article 92 and the UCMJ remove the grey area from military law. Military members a re held to a higher standard and they conduct themselves as such.

How the uneven distribution of land and oceans across the Earth affects climate and vegetation both at global and regional scales. The WritePass Journal

How the uneven distribution of land and oceans across the Earth affects climate and vegetation both at global and regional scales. Introduction How the uneven distribution of land and oceans across the Earth affects climate and vegetation both at global and regional scales. IntroductionFactual InformationReferencesConclusionRelated Introduction This report considers why the uneven distribution of land and oceans across the Earth affects climate and vegetation both at global and regional scales.   It also looks at atmospheric and ocean circulation. Because Earth is always at a tilt, there is an uneven latitudinal input of solar radiation.   This causes the world’s seasons and the force causing heat transport from the equator towards the poles, known as the atmospheric heat balance.   The uneven and unequal distribution of Earth’s land and oceans causes there to be moisture circulation in order to maintain balance.   Their distribution determines large-scale atmospheric and oceanic circulation patterns.   Their dissimilar heat capacities, with Oceans having a much greater capacity relative to land, drives continental-scale convective atmosphere transport.   Factual Information The heating of the warmer equatorial regions and the cooling of the colder polar regions generates the kinetic energy for the motion of air parcels in the atmosphere and fluid parcels in the ocean.   The land and ocean distribution on the Earth’s surface provides additional forcing functions for the atmospheric and oceanic motions, in part due to longitudinal asymmetry in heating due to different thermal properties of land and ocean, and in part due to mechanical effects of the mountain barriers.   The radiation energy falling over the oceans and the land surfaces evaporates the water which later condenses and releases latent heat of condensation in the atmosphere.   Latent heat can cause the rising air to be warmer than surrounding air, so it continues to rise.   The greater the moisture content of rising air, the more latent heat is released to drive convective uplift, which contributes to the intense thunderstorms and deep boundary layer in the wet tropics. Surface air rises most strongly at the equator because of the intense equatorial heating and the large amount of latent heat released as this moist air rises and condenses.   This air rises until it reaches the tropopause. Ocean circulation plays a critical role in Earth’s climate system.  Ã‚   On average, ocean circulation accounts for 40% of the latitudinal heat transfer from the equator to the poles, with the remaining 60% of heat transfer occurring through the atmosphere.   The ocean is the dominant heat transporter in the tropics and the atmosphere plays the stronger role at mid-latitudes.   The surface current of the oceans are driven by surface winds and therefore show global patterns. At the global scale, consistent patterns of air flow can be seen at the Earths surface and within its upper atmosphere.   Global winds develop because of latitudinal variations in atmospheric pressure.   However, these differences in pressure are not just the result of the differential heating of the Earths surface.   At approximately 30 degrees North and South latitude, the subtropical high pressure zone forms because of the presence of descending air from the upper atmosphere.   The sub-polar lows, located at about 60 degrees North and South latitude, develop because of the dynamic interaction of cold polar air with warm moist subtropical air masses.   This interaction causes frontal lifting and the development of cyclonic storms. Surface winds move from areas of high pressure to low pressure.   The course of this movement is also altered by the influence of Coriolis force causing the development of the trade winds (0 to 30 degrees N and S), the westerlies (30 to 60 deg rees N and S) and the polar easterlies (60 to 90 degrees N and S).   Upper atmosphere winds are generally poleward and westerly direction.   Their development is related to the presence of the Hadley, Ferrel and Polar circulation cells in the North and South hemisphere. Hadley-Ferrel Model. google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=lakeeriewx.com/Meteo241/ResearchTopicTwo/Images/HadleyCell.gifimgrefurl Because the Earth is a sphere, more solar energy arrives for a given surface area in the tropics than at higher latitudes, where sunlight strikes the atmosphere at a lower angle.   Energy is transported from the equatorial areas to higher latitudes via atmospheric and oceanic circulations, including storm systems.   Energy is also required to evaporate water from the sea or land surface, and this energy, called latent heat, is released when water vapour condenses in clouds. The atmosphere directly affects life on Earth by supplying the gases for the respiration of vegetation and animals and by moving water from oceanic regions to be deposited in liquid or solid form on land.   The atmosphere also shelters life on Earth from the extreme and potentially harmful effects of direct solar radiation. The oceans are most important because of their tremendous heat storage potential and their ability to distribute that heat horizontally.   The composition and motion of the water in the hydrosphere sustains a rich and diverse life system. The exchange of gases and heat between oceans and atmosphere determines the physical properties and composition of both these sub-systems and is one of the primary climate processes. Vegetation covers a considerable portion of the earth and has an effect on weather and climate.   Vegetation influences both  albedo of the earth and the amount of water vapor and carbon dioxide in the air. Vegetation includes all plants from tropical forests to grassy meadows  and cropland.   All types of plants play a  role in both the water cycle and the earth’s energy balance. Water is necessary to sustaining life on Earth, and helps tie together the Earths lands, oceans, and atmosphere into an integrated system. Precipitation, evaporation, freezing and melting and condensation are all part of the hydrological cycle a never-ending global process of water circulation from clouds to land, to the ocean, and back to the clouds.   This cycling of water is intimately linked with energy exchanges among the atmosphere, ocean, and land that determine the Earths climate and cause much of natural climate variability. Heating determines where the ocean evaporates, and the amount of evaporation. nc-climate.ncsu.edu/edu/k12/.Vegetation The biosphere and atmosphere are a coupled to one another. Climatic state variables, such as temperature, humidity, wind and precipitation affect the physiological functioning of vegetation, the architecture of plant communities, and soil properties. In return, the functional type and extent of vegetation influences the state of the atmosphere. The Kà ¶ppen Climate Classification System is the most widely used for classifying the worlds climates.   Kà ¶ppen divided the Earths surface into climatic regions that generally coincided with world patterns of vegetation and soils. The Kà ¶ppen system recognizes five major climate types based on the annual and monthly averages of temperature and precipitation. A Moist Tropical Climates are known for their high temperatures year round and for their large amount of year round rain. B Dry Climates are characterized by little rain and a huge daily temperature range. Two subgroups, S semiarid or steppe, and W arid or desert, are used with the B climates. C In Humid Middle Latitude Climates land/water differences play a large part. These climates have warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. D Continental Climates can be found in the interior regions of large land masses. Total precipitation is not very high and seasonal temperatures vary widely. E Cold Climates describe this climate type perfectly. These climates are part of areas where permanent ice and tundra are always present. Only about four months of the year have above freezing temperatures. References Blij, H. (2000). Geography: realms regions and concepts 2000(9th). New York: John Wiley Sons, Inc. Gabler, R. (1993). Conclusion From this report of the climate system, we can conclude that we must understand how Earth, with its atmosphere, greenhouse gases, ocean, life, winds, and currents all interact to produce our climate.   The ocean is one big part of the earth system. The ocean, atmosphere, land and vegetation are all connected through the climate system. Changes in various aspects of the climate system, such as the size of ice sheets, the type and distribution of vegetation or the temperature of the atmosphere or ocean will influence the large-scale circulation features of the atmosphere and oceans. There are many feedback mechanisms in the climate system that can either amplify (‘positive feedback’) or diminish (‘negative feedback’) the effects of a change in climate forcing.   Ã‚  For example, as rising concentrations of greenhouse gases warm Earth’s climate, snow and ice begin to melt.   This melting reveals darker land and water surfaces that were beneath the snow and ice, and these darker surfaces absorb more of the Sun’s heat, causing more warming, which causes more melting, and so on, in a self-reinforcing cycle. This feedback loop, known as the ‘ice-albedo feedback’, amplifies the initial warming caused by rising levels of greenhouse gases.

Genocide is a neglected topic within criminal justice and criminology Essay

Genocide is a neglected topic within criminal justice and criminology. Critically analyse this statement - Essay Example tem locally or internationally seems to show a lack of enthusiasm, if such a word is possible, in creating stricter guidelines and punishments when it comes to genocide as compared to how they are, for example, in improving rules with regard to other criminal activities. Genocide is a word used by the late Jewish Polish laywer Raphael Lemkin [Balakian 2013] to describe what the Nazis did to the Jews. Later on, it was further defined by the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide as any of several listed acts conducted with an intent to destroy, partially or completely, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. (Cooke-Welling 2012) This is where criminal justice appears to have neglected genocide. When it had mattered the most, the criminal justice system are still trying to reach a decision on whether the ethnic cleansing that happened in many parts of Bosnia can be considered genocide according to the established definition. Currently,
